We’re conducting interviews with healthcare providers to understand your perceptions of cybersecurity and privacy, current cybersecurity practices at your organization, and whether these cybersecurity practices ever get in the way of caring for patients.
For this study, you will participate in a 60-minute interview where you will be asked about your use of digital technologies in the healthcare setting and will be asked whether various types of cybersecurity attacks might impact your care for patients. We will also ask about current cybersecurity practices at your organization, such as the use of passwords, and whether these practices get in the way of patient care.
Cybersecurity background or experience is NOT required. We will provide all relevant cybersecurity information and can explain any concepts as needed. You must also be 18 years old and currently located in the United States.
All interview participants will receive a $40.00 Amazon gift card.
Interviews will be conducted using Zoom and recorded. All recordings will be encrypted and securely stored without any personally identifiable information, only accessible by the research team. We ask that you provide an email address to allow for interview scheduling. Your anonymity will be protected by storing your email separately from all other study data and will only be used for coordinating interivews.

We’re conducting interviews with healthcare providers to understand how they perceive cybersecurity and privacy threats in the healthcare setting. We want to know more about how technology in healthcare works and how cyber attackers might impact patient care. We also want to know how your organization currently protects against these threats and whether that ever gets in the way of providing care to patients.
A group of academic researchers and healthcare providers who are passionate about cybersecurity research, making cybersecurity more usable, and making patients safer.
If you choose to participate, you can follow this link to volunteer. The survey will ask you questions about your professional and education background, your perceptions regarding cybersecurity and privacy in healthcare, as well as some standard personal demographic questions, such as age, income, and race. Note, no background or experience in cybersecurity is required.
If you're selected to participate, you'll then be scheduled for a 60-minute online interview. During the interview, you will be asked about your use of digital technologies in the healthcare setting and will be asked whether various types of cybersecurity attacks might impact your care for patients. We will also ask about current cybersecurity practices at your organization, such as the use of passwords, and whether these practices get in the way of patient care. We will then review participant responses for trends to produce recommendations for better focusing cybersecurity support so they best protect patients and are easier to use for practitioners. We will publish anonymous aggregated results in peer-reviewed, academic publications.
