Study Description

We are conducting a survey to understand where organizations get information about potential cyber threats. We want to know where you go for this information and what you think of your sources. Our goal is to improve how information about potential cyber threats is communicated, which will make warnings more effective and reduce alert fatigue. The survey will ask where you get cyber threat information and how useful you perceive certain sources to be, along with a couple general questions about your organization’s sector.

You are eligible to take the survey if you manage the security of computer systems (for example, applying security patches) or have held such a job in the last 2 years. Respondents currently located in Mainland China are not eligible. Taiwan, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR are eligible.

You may choose to enter their email address in a raffle to win one of 30 $100 Amazon.com gift cards. We will protect the privacy and confidentiality of any information shared on the survey with the utmost of our abilities.

FAQ

Why are you contacting me?

We are conducting a survey to understand where organizations get information about potential cyber threats. We want to know where you go for this information and what you think of your sources. Our goal is to improve how information about potential cyber threats is communicated, which will make warnings more effective and reduce alert fatigue.

Who are you?

We are a group of academic researchers who are passionate about cybersecurity research as well as improving how cyber threats are communicated—making them clearer, less bothersome, and less time-consuming.

What happens if I want to participate?

If you choose to participate, you can follow this link to take the survey, which will ask you a series of questions about where you get cyber threat information and how useful you perceive certain sources to be, along with a couple general questions about your organization’s sector. We will ask that you provide us a copy of your resume/CV or a link to a public profile that confirms that you work (or have worked in the last two years) in an eligible role. We will delete your resume/CV or link once we have determined you qualify. Your resume/CV/link will be used to determine your qualification only, and it will not be included in our analysis or results. Your responses will be analyzed anonymously. We will publish anonymous aggregated results in peer-reviewed, academic publications.

I am concerned about my data security and privacy!

Fantastic! So are we! All your data will be kept confidential and will be accessible only to the researchers listed on this webpage. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact any member of our research team.

What’s in it for me?

Our goal is to learn where organizations get their cyber threat advisories and how system administrators perceive these advisories. If you wish, you may choose to enter your email into a raffle to win one of 30 $100 Amazon gift cards. Additionally, we hope the information we gather will eventually improve the quality of cyber threat advisories.

What happens if I do not want to participate?

Nothing. If you begin the survey but change your mind, you can exit the survey at any time, and any information entered up to that point will not be recorded.
